CAT Locations

Bo-riiing.

This weekend, I visited Sarasota. The drive from Tallahassee is about five hours each way; this doomed me to ten hours on monotonous highways in one weekend.

I was reminded pointedly of how simply boring driving can be, sometimes. It's tough to pay attention to the road and do nothing else other than pay attention to the road- especially on long car trips like this one. This is when I believe that many teenagers can start to feel motivated to let distractions affect them; I, particularly, have such an enormous amount of energy and such an active mind that I loathe not having lots of things going on.

What do you all think about iPod connector cables that allow a playlist to play through the radio? That stops teens from being distracted anymore than a radio would distract a teen; I'm pleased to see that entertainment technologies are aiming at helping teens resist the urge to partake in all-consuming distractions like cell phone use.

Teens get bored so easily; at least technologies like that are helping channel abudnant energy in a way that doesn't so dangerously distract a teenager from driving.

Hidden Dangers

I have discovered another article, recently: one that discusses an accident that resulted from a teenager texting while driving: http://www.whas11.com/news/national/82475187.html

Most teens are well aware of- and respect!- the laws regarding drinking alcohol and driving. Such an act has proven itself time and time again to be dangerous and fatal- teens get it: don't drink and drive.

Stereotypes and You

An article was brought to my attention not long ago: http://www.content4reprint.com/internet-marketing/whos-the-best-worst-driver-women-men-teens-or-seniors.htm

It summarizes findings regarding the likeliness of certain age groups and gender groups to make poor decisions while driving, or to even go as far as to be involved with a wreck. Who hasn't heard a stereotype when it comes to the abilities of drivers? Some of them are silly, some based on fact to an extent. What comes from stereotyping drivers?

Saving lives, Since 1959

THE SEAT BELT TURNS 50!

Many years ago when the sport of Drag Racing first became sanctioned driver safety was a priority.  It was quickly realized that when the car got out of control it resulted in a wreck where the driver was hurt or killed and it was because the driver was being thrown around in the car and had no hope of regaining control of the vehicle.  The answer to the problem, a seat belt.  It kept the drivers securely behind-the-wheel giving them an opportunity to regain control of their car.

Several years later... the seat belt as we know it today. The 3-point safety belt, the most basic safety item in any vehicle is 50 years old this year after first being fitted to a Volvo in 1959. It has been estimated safety belts have saved more than a million lives so far and they will continue to save over a hundred thousand lives a year.
