The Charleston Police Department is proud to be recognized as an agency providing a high level of public services and as an agency responsive to the needs of our community. Automobile crashes are the leading cause of death and injury to teens in the State of South Carolina and the Charleston Police Department is taking a pro-active approach to reducing the number of teenage traffic crashes using the “Collision Avoidance Training” program. Due to the pro-active nature of our agency it is our goal to prevent the loss of young lives and the devastation and human suffering caused by the premature death of a child. As the first agency in the state of offer the Collision Avoidance Training program (CAT) the Charleston program has become a model program for other agencies.
